Dentures are a removable device that is recommended for patients who have lost a majority of their teeth or experienced bone and gum loss. Dr. Travis Lee at Ocean Breeze Dental Care uses the latest advancements in dental technology, techniques & materials to work with patients in determining the scale (partial to full) and type of denture that is optimal for replacing missing teeth. When compared to other restoration options including implants and bridges, dentures are the most affordable and non-invasive option for restoring missing teeth. Please contact our knowledgeable & compassionate dental professionals serving the West Los Angeles community to determine which dental restoration option is best for replacing your missing teeth.
Both partial (used when some natural teeth remain) and full dentures (used when no natural teeth remain) are removable prosthetics designed to replace missing teeth and surrounding soft tissues. Dr. Lee has over 20-years experience in using the latest technology, technique and materials to customize dentures that look & feel like natural teeth and are comfortable.
Full Dentures
With full dentures, also known as complete dentures, Dr. Lee will customize a flesh-colored acrylic base to fit over your gums with the base of the upper denture covering the roof of your mouth while the lower denture is shaped like a horseshoe to accommodate your tongue. A conventional denture is created after all the teeth have been extracted and healing has begun. It generally takes between 8 to 12 weeks for your gums to heal after the extractions and a full denture can be worn. In the meantime, Dr. Lee recommends immediate dentures which can be made in advance and placed on the date teeth are extracted. As gums and bones shrink during the healing time, immediate dentures are generally a temporary solution and may require additional adjustments while you await for your conventional dentures.
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are recommended for patients who have natural teeth remaining. An alternative to dental bridge for restoring a missing tooth or teeth, a partial denture is a removable prosthetic that consists of a plastic base and replacement teeth connected by a metal framework that attaches to existing teeth. Partial dentures can be used when one or more healthy teeth are still in place. Not only do partial dentures fill in gaps left by missing teeth, they prevent teeth from shifting out of place. A partial denture with precision attachments is a more natural-looking tooth replacement option because it latches on internally, rather than with clasps on the crowns.
